Abstract

Morozov Yu.V. Central Asia as an Area of Collision of Strategic Interests of the USA, China and Russia

In XXI century Central Asia began to play an increasing role in the political and economic spheres of Eurasia. However, its further development is hindered by negative factors affecting the economy of Central Asian countries, their inter-State relations and the security in the region. In addition to these, there is the political and economic struggle growing in Central Asia between the USA on one hand and China and Russia on the other, as well as between other non-regional actors that were involved in the regional processes in order to ensure a favorable position in the struggle for region's energy resources and transport corridors, leading into Europe and Asia Pacific. The author`s conclusions point to the significance of this region for US, China, and Russia`s interests, as well as the importance of their policies and strategies in Central Asia.

The paper also reveals the impact that the pandemic may have on the implementation of the "Belt and road" initiative in its African part. The issue of China's "soft power" in Africa is touched upon in the light of the adverse consequences of COVID 19 in the sphere of humanitarian relations.

Portyakov V.Ya. Chinese Studies in India

For the first time in the Russian scientific literature, the main directions and features of Chinese research in India are considered. The reasons for the high activity of Indian sinologists are shown, and the leading centers of Chinese studies in the country are characterized. The main forms of research work are analyzed: regular weekly seminars, lectures, annual all-India conferences, special forums on China with the support of the K. Adenauer Foundation. The subjects of analytical notes and occasional reports, the magazine "China Report" are considered. The main Indian monographs on China published in recent years are presented. As a concrete example, we analyze the publications of one of the leading Indian sinologists, Srikanth Kondapalli, and his approach to Indian-Chinese relations. Insufficient attention of Indian scientists to Russian-Chinese relations has been revealed.

Sazonov S.L., Wang Jingwei. The Role of Chinese Financial Institutions in the Development of the Road Infrastructure of the «Belt and Road» Project

In recent years, the issues of integration processes in the field of road transport development’s financing diversification, aimed at the unification of the road networks of the PRC and the countries, participating in the «belt and road» megaproject and creating the new contours of the Eurasian region, have become particularly relevant. The active participation of leading Chinese financial institutions, the creation of the Asian infrastructure investment Bank and various funds aimed at building road networks in neighboring countries allow China to develop the economy of the Western provinces, generate a multiplier effect in neighboring Chinese industries, and stimulate the growth of China's foreign trade. This, in turn, activates the economic development of the project's participating countries, contributes to strengthening of transport integration at the regional and sub-regional levels, and provides them with independent access to new world markets.

Timofeev O.A., Titov S.A., Sharipov F.F. Prospects for the Development of China's Oil Industry and the Role of Russia as a Key Supplier

Long-term plans for China energy system development, involving an increase in the role of non-fossil energy resources, and the medium-term reduction in oil consumption due to the COVID-crisis, raise the questions about the role of the Chinese oil industry and the role of Russia as a key importer of oil to China. The authors analyze long-, medium- and short-term trends in the production, refining and consumption of oil by China, using current data from primary sources. The authors conclude that China’s oil industry is restoring its oil consumption and imports. In the long run, despite the transition to green energy, the role and volume of oil consumption will grow until 2035 and then stabilize by 2050. This creates good opportunities for Russia, as one of the main suppliers of oil to China, but at the same time it will intensify competition between world oil producers.

Ma Weiyun, Ma Tianjiao. An Analysis of the Causes of the Events in Chinese Eastern Railway between Soviet Union and China in 1929

In 1929 there was armed conflict in Chinese Eastern Railway between the Soviet Union and China which shook China and the world. After the conflict, Chinese Eastern Railway returned to its original state. From an objective point of view, China's seeking to reclaim sovereignty of Chinese Eastern Railway was the fundamental reason of the incident of Chinese Eastern Railway. From the perspective of foreign policy of the National Government of the Republic of China, the incident of Chinese Eastern Railway was the inevitable result of Chiang Kaishek's anti-soviet and anti-communist policies. From the angle of the factional struggle within the Kuomintang, Chiang Kaishek used Zhang Xueliang as a check on local power, and the incident of Chinese Eastern Railway could divert domestic attention. From a subjective point of view, Zhang Xueliang's misjudgment of the situation of the domestic situation was the important reason of the incident of Chinese Eastern Railway. In addition, the great economic interest of the Chinese Eastern Railway was attractive to the financially strained Nanjing government, and to local authority in the northeast of China, China used the issue of «White Guard of Russia» against the Soviet regime and so on, they were also also the factors that can not be ignored that lead to the contradiction and conflicts between the Soviet Union and China.

Korobova A.N. The Boxer Rebellion Images in Chinese Fiction

The paper investigates the topic of the Boxers Rebellion (1898–1901) in the Chinese literature, as in late Qing novels, as in contemporary literature. In particular, "The tanci of the national calamity of 1900" (1901) written by Li Baojia, “Sea of Woe” (1906) by Wu Woyao, “Divine fist” (1963) by Lao She and several novels by Feng Jicai are analyzed in order to trace different approaches to the Boxers, to the Imperial Court and to the foreign armies and international military intervention.

Feng Jicai`s first historical novels, in particular “Yihequan” (1977, co-written with Li Dingxing) and “The Miraculous Lamp” (1979) are focused on the Boxers rebellion in Tianjin, they represent the concept of public revenge as upholding of moral justice. His story “The Miraculous Braid” though describes magical beliefs as the core of the Boxers ideology. The last novel, “Monocular Telescope” (2018) also describes events in Tianjin that have been occurred during the Boxers rebellion, but it is very different from the previous two. It can be treated as an example of Sino-western cultural clash.
