Doctor of Economics, Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies Russian Academy of Sciences.


Specialist in contemporary China studies. Major spheres of research: economic policy of China, Russian-Chinese relations, foreign policy of the PRC.

V.Portyakov graduated from the Moscow State University, specialty "economic geography", in 1970. Candidate of Science (History) (1978, International relations of China), Doctor of Economics (1999, Modernization and economic reform in China under Deng Xiaoping), Professor (World Economy).

The service record includes work at the Trade Representation of the Soviet Union in the PRC, the Soviet / Russian Embassy in China, and Institute for Economic Studies of the World Socialist System at the USSR Academy of Sciences, while the currently taken positions are: Deputy Director, Institute of the Far Eastern Studies at Russian Academy of Sciences and Editor-in-Chief of the "Far Eastern Affairs" journal.

Vladimir Portyakov is the author of 290 publications including 7 individual monographs:
